Tuffa Tanks keep RyanAir flying high
Tuffa UK Limited has completed the order to supply RyanAir with four fifteen thousand litre tanks to store aircraft de-icer, which will help their fleet flying out of Stanstead Airport through the winter's freezing conditions. The custom made bunded tanks, made from MDPE, are the perfect storage vessels for chemicals such as the industry-standard Killfrost de-icing fluids. Tuffa UK Limited are the only manufacturers of these bulk plastic units being an ideal solution as apposed to utilising standard mild steel tanks which are not compatible with the chemical.
The busy timetables operated by RyanAir do not allow for grounded aircraft due to poor weather conditions, so efficient defrosting and de-icing of aeroplanes to keep to schedule is imperative. Large quantities of the de-icing agent, industry-standard Kilfrost fluid, need to be on hand at the airport to allow instantaneous action for when a drop in temperature occurs.
The Tuffa Tanks construction minimises the risk of spillage and leaks, which in the busy and hazardous environment of an airport is essential. Each of these low maintenance storage tanks measures 2866mm diameter x 3650mm high, with a capacity of fifteen thousand litres per tank. They feature overfill prevention valves and alarms, visual gauges, emergency shut off valves, Kamlock connections and also the Armco Protection Barrier to minimise the risk of damage caused by impact.

Tuffa UK obtained the RyanAir contract following competition from other world-wide tank manufacturers. It was after recommendations from other operators and Tuffa's willingness to go the extra mile to satisfy the client's bespoke needs that they were chosen as suppliers. The sales team in Uttoxeter were very helpful and attentive said RyanAir Engineering Manager Des Lazaroo. He felt that their engineering expertise was very impressive and they had produced a very competitive and timely solution to RyanAir's needs. He also expressed that working with Tuffa had been a positive experience.
