Fire Safety and Oil Tanks

The need to protect your oil storage tanks from the risk of fire has been raised by the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service. The announcement has come after many oil tank fires have been started maliciously in Northern Ireland.  The warning about fire safety is relevant for all home owners and businesses that use oil heating or keeps oil for any purpose.

One of the best ways to reduce the risk of fires is to use fire protected tanks. Look for one that has been assessed to comply with the building recommendations and have been able to make the installation process easier for the installers and for the customers.  As many as 60% of all tanks installed do not meet with the building recommendations and therefore investing in one of the fire protected storage tanks is the ideal option.

When considering fire safety look for the following safety standards and achievements:

  • BS476: Part 22
  • BS476 (Warrington Fire Research Centre)
  • Meets the J5.4 Section of the Building Regulations
  • Meets Table 5.1 Fire Protection
  • Local Authority Building Control

The tanks you invest in should have a fire barrier built in and constructed using fire retardant material. If you would like to improve your current storage solutions and use fire retardant solutions call our team on: 01889 567700.
