When you move into a new home that has oil heating for the first time you may feel a little bewildered. The best place to start is to learn whether the heating oil tank is underground or above ground. Once you know the location, it is worth considering replacing the tank with a new one, if it hasn’t been replaced for some time. By replacing it you will be sure that there aren’t any faults or leaks that could cause some problems sooner rather than later. It might also be a good idea simply because you can speak to the supplier and discover if you are using the right tank, and learn how to use the features such as the gauge.
Alternatively you could contact your local council and ask for the environmental department to try and arrange the check or to pass you on to someone who has been authorised to check the tank. This is important as you may have one that is no longer safe and could cause an oil spill that in turn will cause an environmental issue.
