When Standard Isn’t Enough: A Bespoke AdBlue® Solution

Cougar Lubricants UK approached Tuffa for a plastic bunded tank for AdBlue® that would do more than simply store and dispense fluid.

The tank was to be supplied to their customer on a three-year agreement as part of a wider AdBlue® supply arrangement. During that period, the customer would use the tank for their own fleet vehicles while also dispensing AdBlue® to their own customers.

Accurate monitoring and controlled dispensing were essential. The solution needed to allow usage tracking, user control and reliable performance in day-to-day fleet operations.

The solution

Tuffa supplied a bespoke plastic bunded AdBlue® tank with the following specification:

Bunded construction
2 inch dry break fill coupling
Screened vent
External 230v pump
6m of 3/4 inch delivery hose
Automatic shut off nozzle
Pulse output flowmeter
Horn Tecalemet fuel management system with PIN code access
Nozzle holster
Inline strainer
Manual float level gauge
Lockable flip lid

Most of this specification sits within our standard AdBlue® tank offering. The key difference on this project was the integration of the Horn Tecalemet fuel management system.

Installing this system required a modification to the bund, something we had not previously carried out on this particular plastic model. The adaptation was engineered carefully to ensure full compliance, safety and structural integrity were maintained.

The result is a fully operational AdBlue® dispensing tank with secure PIN-controlled access and accurate usage tracking.

The result

A compliant, secure and fully monitored AdBlue® storage solution that supports fleet refuelling and customer supply in one compact system.

The end user will use the tank to fuel their own fleet vehicles while also supplying AdBlue® to their customers. The integrated fuel management system allows them to:

Monitor individual usage
Track how much AdBlue® each customer draws
Charge accordingly
Add a controlled dispensing service to their existing offering

This turns a storage tank into a managed asset that supports both operational efficiency and additional revenue.

The tank is being supplied by Cougar Lubricants UK to their customer for three years as part of an AdBlue® supply agreement. At the end of the term, the customer can renew the arrangement or the tank can be relocated to a new site.

This flexible model gives the end user immediate access to secure AdBlue® storage and dispensing without upfront capital investment, while ensuring long-term supply continuity.

While it is steel tanks that are often associated with bespoke fabrication, this project shows how Tuffa can adapt even plastic tanks to meet specific operational requirements.

Integrating the Horn Tecalemet fuel management system into this plastic AdBlue® tank was a first for this model. It demonstrates how standard designs can be enhanced to deliver controlled dispensing, fleet tracking and commercial flexibility, as well as our commitment to delivering the best solutions for our customers.
