Yara’s 15,000L Heating Oil Tank Upgrade

Yara is a global leader in crop nutrition and sustainable agriculture, with operations across more than 60 countries. At their Suffolk site in Chedburgh, the team recently undertook infrastructure upgrades to improve operational efficiency and site appearance — starting with the replacement of an ageing steel heating oil tank used to fuel their industrial boiler.

The Challenge: Ageing Steel Heating Oil Tank with High Upkeep

The former carbon steel oil tank had become increasingly costly to maintain and was located in full public view, negatively impacting the site’s overall appearance. With a new boiler installation planned, Yara took the opportunity to modernise their heating oil storage as part of their wider improvement programme.

“As part of our improvement program, we decided that when we replaced our boiler, we also needed to upgrade the storage to a type of storage which will provide lower maintenance cost and also which will be much more pleasing visually as it is in full sight of the public.”

The Solution: 15,000L Plastic Bunded Oil Tank with Cabinet

To meet both practical and aesthetic requirements, Yara selected a 15,000-litre plastic bunded oil tank from Tuffa, complete with a lockable, weatherproof cabinet. The UK-manufactured tank offers a bunded (or double skin) design for built-in environmental protection and helps minimise servicing and inspection requirements — ideal for long-term heating oil storage in industrial settings.

Its durable, UV-stabilised polyethylene build eliminates the risk of rust, while the cabinet provides a tidy, secure housing for necessary equipment.

The Result: Clean Lines, Clean Fuel, Clean Image

Installed at the front of the site, the double skin oil tank now complements the upgraded boiler system while improving Yara’s site presentation to visitors and the public. The installation supports safe, compliant heating oil storage, has reduced ongoing maintenance needs, and enhances Yara’s environmental image.
